Daniel Engelhardt, Hallmark Development
Founder, Passes Away at Age 86

Daniel Engelhardt of Clearwater, passed away on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Morton Plant Mease Countryside Hospital. He was born in St. Louis, MO; a graduate of the University of Nebraska; and a U.S. Air Force Pilot, retired.

Dan came to the bay area in 1968 as a builder from Rockford, IL. He founded Hallmark Development as a builder/developer. He was well known and well respected for his character and reputation. His ability to work with bankers, condominium buyers, and building departments was well recognized by all. He also donated his time, energy and money to individuals and causes serving as a great example to his family and friends.

Dan constructed many commercial and residential properties in Pinellas and the surrounding counties. He was involved in opening banks, including local former Citizens Bank and Trust. Dan was a member of the 25th Flight Order of the Daedalians, Ruth Eckerd Hall Funded Life, sustaining member of Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, Morton Plant Mease Foundation Roebling Society. His prior involvement as: Past Vice President Contractor Builders Association and Pinellas County Builders Council, Chairman Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board, Past Treasurer of Florida Condominium Association, Director of Pinellas County Tourist Development Council, Director of Florida Home Builders Association, and many others.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Engelhardt; sons Steve Engelhardt of Dunedin and Paul Engelhardt of Ozona; stepson Jeffery Teetz of Texas; stepdaughters Deborah Szoke of California and Kimberly Coronado of Clearwater; brother Thomas A. Engelhardt of Missouri; 16 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Donald J. Engelhardt of the U.S. Air Force and his sister Dolores McCormick of Missouri.

A graveside service with full military honors was held at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park at 2 pm, Saturday, Feb. 7th. Donations in the name of Daniel A. Engelhardt may be made for scholarships to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado (3116 Academy Drive, USAFA, CO 80840).
